MBABANE – Across the Kingdom, thousands of students are beginning to dream a little bigger. The sun has risen on a new chapter of hope and progress, ushered in by a bold decision that puts learners at the heart of Eswatini’s development journey.
In a landmark announcement that has brought joy to households across the country, Minister of Labour and Social Security, Phila Buthelezi, has revealed that student allowances under the national scholarship program have increased to E2 000 per month, starting with the 2025/2026 academic year.
This uplift, the first since 2019, is more than just a monetary increase, it is a powerful symbol of a government deeply attuned to the needs of its young people.
“It pleases Government to inform Emaswati that student allowances have now increased to E20 000.00 per year, or E2 000.00 per month,” announced Buthelezi with heartfelt conviction.
A Step Forward, Fueled by Compassion and Commitment
For years, student support had stood at E1 690 per month, an amount that served its purpose, but increasingly fell short in a world of rising costs. Recognizing the pressure on learners, His Majesty’s Government took decisive action.
“Since the last review in August 2019, the cost of living has shifted. Government, despite fiscal challenges, saw it essential to protect the dignity and wellbeing of our students,” said Buthelezi.
This increase is a testament to visionary leadership, driven by a belief that no dream should be denied by circumstance. It is a vote of confidence in Eswatini’s next generation of doctors, engineers, teachers, artists, and innovators.
An Investment in Our Greatest Resource, Our Youth
The Minister stated that the decision is grounded in long-term nation-building.
“We believe that investing in education is an investment in the future of our nation.”
With this increase, Government is not only alleviating financial pressure, but also encouraging learners to focus on what truly matters: their growth, studies, and aspirations.
A Kingdom That Cares
Gratitude echoed across the nation as the Minister extended appreciation to the leaders who made this milestone possible.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to His Majesty’s Cabinet for their timely intervention in ensuring that all our children have the opportunity to further their education with reduced difficulties.”
The Road Ahead
As the new academic year approaches, students can step forward with renewed determination, knowing their Kingdom stands behind them.
“We reassure the public that the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini will continue to place the interests of Emaswati at the center of its focus,” concluded Buthelezi.
In the tapestry of progress, this increase is a golden thread, a promise that in Eswatini, education is not a privilege for the few, but a right for all.
