LUDZIDZINI – Business and tradition walked hand in hand at this year’s Umhlanga gift-giving ceremony as Tisuka Takangwane, General Manager of pharmaceutical giant MVJ, made a heartfelt contribution to His Majesty King Mswati III.
At the colourful ceremony, held at the Ludzidzini Royal Residence, MVJ donated 500 bottles of water and 100 basins for the Imbali, ensuring the maidens were supported as they carried out their sacred cultural duty.
The gesture reinforced the company’s growing role in giving back to the community while embracing Eswatini’s heritage.
Rizwan Mehbub Diwan, a key figure behind the donation, praised the strength and unity of the maidens.
“I loved the culture and the effort that was put by Imbalis,” he said, adding that the company was proud to support one of the Kingdom’s most treasured traditions.
This year’s Umhlanga ceremony drew overwhelming generosity, with over E18 million worth of gifts presented to the King. Contributions ranged from cattle and groceries to financial pledges, reflecting the deep bond between emaSwati, businesses, and the monarchy.
Diwan further expressed MVJ’s commitment to national development.
“His Majesty the King has honoured me by choosing to be part of this event. I look forward to boosting the economy with the donation and participating in every event of the Kingdom of Eswatini,” he said.
Tisuka Takangwane’s participation underlined the private sector’s crucial role in preserving cultural identity while driving economic growth. Their donation stood as both a tribute to the Imbali and a symbol of solidarity with the nation’s traditions.
