MBABANE- At a bustling textile workshop in Phocweni, skilled hands stitch uniforms that symbolize discipline and pride.

On nearby farmlands, maize cribs stand full after a successful season. At clinics, ambulances respond to patients with renewed efficiency. This is the evolving face of Eswatini’s Ministry of Defence and National Security, one that goes beyond security, investing in livelihoods, health, and infrastructure.

The Ministry’s Second Quarterly Performance Report for 2025/26 highlights significant achievements that underscore this broader vision.

The Textile Department has strengthened self-reliance by producing uniforms in-house. Among the impressive output were 300 jerseys, 250 No.3 uniforms, and dozens of ceremonial kits. This initiative not only saves costs but also equips personnel with sewing skills that can generate income post-service.

In agriculture, the Ministry harvested 127 tonnes of produce, including 105 tonnes of white maize, thanks to strategic partnerships with the National Maize Corporation and EWADE. This strengthens food security and demonstrates effective resource use.

On the health front, the UEDF Medical Department treated 29,411 patients, most of them civilians, across its ten facilities. Services ranged from TB/HIV screening and ART provision to X-rays and mental health counselling. A key milestone was the acquisition of five new ambulances, enhancing emergency response.

Infrastructure development has also advanced significantly. The E70 million Zombodze Barracks replacement project has reached 85% completion, delivering modern accommodation, ablutions, a clinic, kitchen facilities, and a borehole system.

Additionally, the Air Wing Department successfully secured all national events and carried out VVIP aerial escorts, ensuring the safety of dignitaries and the public alike.

Through these achievements, the Ministry is building national capacity beyond the battlefield. By focusing on production, health, and infrastructure, it is laying foundations that strengthen the nation’s security, economy, and human capital.
