LOBAMBA – The Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Hon. Bongani Nzima, has hailed the latest developments at the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) Headquarters, describing them as a milestone achievement that represents more than just beauty and infrastructure.

Speaking during the official unveiling of the Olympic Rings Monument held at the EOCGA Headquarters in Lobamba on Tuesday, October 20, 2025, Minister Nzima said the project reflected Eswatini’s growing commitment to the global Olympic movement and to the principles of Olympic solidarity.

“This development represents much more than beauty. It is a powerful symbol of Eswatini’s unity, pride, and determination to advance the Olympic spirit,” said Minister Nzima.

The unveiling ceremony marked a historic moment as Eswatini became the first country in Africa to install the Olympic Rings Monument, setting a new continental record and strengthening the nation’s place within the international sporting community.

These latest developments build upon the foundation laid with the initial construction of this impressive facility, which was inaugurated by former Prime Minister Cleopas Dlamini. That first phase, which included the main building and parking area, came at a cost of E3 million, marking a proud investment in the future of sport in Eswatini.

The upgraded EOCGA Headquarters now boasts a refreshed and dignified look, complete with a Guard House, flag poles, a paved driveway, and the newly installed Olympic Rings Monument a first of its kind on the continent.

The Olympic Rings, designed by Pierre de Coubertin in 1913, are a globally recognised emblem symbolising unity among the five continents and the shared values of friendship, respect, and excellence. Their installation in Eswatini aligns with the Olympic Solidarity mission, which seeks to provide equal opportunities for athletes and strengthen the global Olympic family.

Minister Nzima further applauded EOCGA’s efforts in launching the Olympic Values Education Programme, which will educate the public and young learners about the deeper meaning of Olympism promoting discipline, fairness, and excellence both on and off the field.

The event concluded with optimism and pride, as Eswatini’s sports community celebrated not only a striking monument but a symbol of national progress and continental leadership in sports development.
