BHUNYA– Swift action by Montigny Rangers in the early hours of Saturday, March 28, 2026, led to the interception of a suspected cattle theft along Route 102 in the D01 compartment, near Ngwenyeni, resulting in the safe recovery and return of 29 cattle to their rightful owners.
According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 04:00 am when rangers on routine patrol encountered a large herd of cattle moving at speed through the area. The animals came to an abrupt halt upon approaching the patrol vehicle, raising suspicion that they were being actively driven by unidentified individuals. The suspected handlers fled into the darkness upon detection, abandoning the herd.
Acting swiftly, the rangers secured the livestock and transported them to the Montigny kraal to ensure their safety while investigations to trace ownership were initiated. Their vigilance and rapid response prevented what could have been a significant loss for local farmers.
The rightful owners were later identified as Mr. Mtfungelwa Dladla and Mr. Sibusiso Shabangu of Mhlangeni. The official handover of the cattle took place at approximately 10:30 am on the same day in the presence of Bhunya Police officers, ensuring due process and accountability.
Both farmers expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Montigny Rangers, praising their dedication and efficiency in recovering the animals.
