MBABANE– His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) netball teams flew the Eswatini flag high at the Jwaneng Netball Extravaganza in Botswana, where the Green Lightning male team was crowned champions after defeating Notwane 55-32 in the final.
The tournament brought together competitive netball teams from Eswatini and Botswana, providing a platform for regional sports development and international exposure for local athletes.
HMCS Green Lightning dominated the competition from the group stages, recording a 61-11 victory over Nico United before crushing Notwane 65-20 to secure a place in the semi-finals and eventually the final.
Their strong teamwork, disciplined defence and accurate shooting proved too much for their opponents, as they maintained a winning streak throughout the tournament to lift the championship trophy and proudly represent Eswatini on the regional stage.
The HMCS female team also delivered a commendable performance during the extravaganza. They started their campaign with an impressive 72-23 victory over Mvusoludzo, showing determination and strong coordination on the court.
However, their hopes of progressing to the semi-finals were cut short after a narrow 45-43 defeat to hosts Jwaneng in a closely contested match.
Despite the setback, the team remained focused and resilient. Led by Mavi Ndlangamandla, they bounced back with a convincing 56-25 victory over Botswana Police Service in the classification matches, securing a place in the plate division finals and finishing the tournament on a positive note.
The Jwaneng Netball Extravaganza highlighted the growing strength of netball in Eswatini and strengthened sporting relations between Eswatini and Botswana, while giving HMCS players valuable international competition experience.
