MBABANE– The Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, through the Department of Meteorology, is actively shaping the future of climate leadership by hosting a three-day Capacity Building Workshop for the Eswatini Climate Change Youth Parliament (CCYP), taking place from March 31 to April 2, 2026.
The high-impact workshop has brought together young leaders from across the country, equipping them with critical knowledge and practical insights needed to address climate change and contribute meaningfully to national and global climate efforts. It is firmly focused on strengthening youth understanding of climate science, national priorities, and international frameworks that guide climate action.
Kicking off the programme, Mr Bongimenzi Themba delivered a detailed and engaging presentation on climate change, highlighting observed trends, risks, vulnerabilities, and future projections. His presentation painted a clear picture of how climate change is affecting Eswatini, while emphasizing the urgency for informed and decisive action.
Building on this strong foundation, Mr Nqobizwe Dlamini presented on key global and national climate frameworks. He unpacked the significance of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement, linking them to Eswatini’s commitments through the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and the National Adaptation Plan (NAP). His insights helped participants connect global goals with local action.
The workshop has been met with enthusiasm and active participation, with young people demonstrating a strong commitment to driving climate solutions. It serves as a powerful platform for dialogue, learning, and collaboration, positioning youth as key stakeholders in climate governance.
This initiative clearly reflects the Ministry’s confidence in the power of youth to lead change. By investing in knowledge and capacity building, Eswatini is cultivating a generation that is informed, empowered, and ready to champion a sustainable and climate-resilient future.
