MBABANE– The Eswatini National Fire, Rescue and Emergency Service (ENFRES) on may 5, 2026 joined the global community in observing Firefighters’ Memorial Day, paying tribute to brave men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty.
According to information sourced from ENFRES social media , the service stood in solemn silence to honour fallen heroes whose courage continues to shape the nation’s safety and resilience. The organisation said the legacy of these firefighters remains deeply rooted in the communities they served and protected.
The service said firefighting in Eswatini is more than a job. It is a calling that requires discipline, bravery and a selfless heart. Fallen firefighters were remembered for their strong commitment, as they walked into danger to ensure the safety of others. Their sacrifice, ENFRES said, will always be part of the country’s history.
At the same time, recognition was given to active-duty firefighters who continue to serve on the frontlines. Across the country, these men and women remain on call 24/7, responding to emergencies such as wildfires, house fires, road accidents and rescue operations.
ENFRES also recognised the important role played by families of firefighters, noting their strength and support during long working hours and the risks of the job. Their contribution, though often unseen, is important to the success of the service.
The organisation emphasised its commitment to saving lives and protecting property, whether responding to bushfires during the dry season or carrying out rescue missions. This mission continues to guide their work and inspire future generations.
