MBABANE – After winning hearts with their breakout hit “Langa Lami,” rising music duo N Kay and Smally are back with a deeply emotional and spiritually charged release titled “Inqola,” featuring Quekey and TNS Savvy.
The song, which has already sparked conversations on social media, takes a raw and honest look at pain, delayed breakthroughs and conversations with God during difficult seasons of life.
N Kay, whose real name is Nakelelo Mndzebele, and Smally, born Tanele Mndzebele, said the inspiration behind the track came from a place of “spiritual frustration” experienced while praying and waiting for change.
“The song Inqola came from that place of spiritual frustration we all hit. You’re praying, fasting, doing right but your life won’t move,” said the duo.
They explained that the word Inqola, meaning wagon or cart in siSwati, symbolises the heavy burdens people carry daily, including dreams, responsibilities and unanswered prayers.
“It’s the weight we carry dreams, family, bills, purpose. We wrote it during a season of begging God for progress,” they shared.
Unlike many motivational songs that focus solely on perseverance, the artists said Inqola embraces vulnerability and emotional honesty.
“The message is: it’s okay to ask God ‘how long?’ while you’re stuck. Real faith also laments,” they said.
According to the duo, the song speaks directly to people silently struggling behind closed doors while still trying to hold onto faith.
“It’s for the person on their knees saying, ‘God, I’m tired of pushing this weight alone. Show me progress.’”
Describing the sound of the song, N Kay and Smally called it “a midnight prayer” built around tribal elements, emotional depth and unfiltered expression.
“It’s not worship music, it’s wrestle music,” they said.
The creative process behind the collaboration was equally personal, as each artist involved brought real-life struggles into the studio.
“Everybody had a moment failed applications, sick family, empty bank accounts. We didn’t write from theory, we wrote from the altar of frustration,” they revealed.
They further explained that producer TNS Savvy first created the beat before the team gathered to build the concept together. During the recording session, they felt the track needed Quekey’s touch and immediately reached out to him.
“When we were vibing to the song in studio, we felt like the song needed a flavour of Quekey and we called him. He answered immediately and that’s how it all came about,” they said.
The duo also noted that Inqola marks a major shift from their previous work.
“Before, we wrote about grinding and trusting the process like in Langa Lami. Inqola is about when the process hurts and you need to talk to God about it,” they explained.
“It’s our first time being spiritually naked on a track. No fake ‘I’m blessed’ energy. Just ‘God, I’m stuck do You see me?’”
Although the emotions behind the song took time to live through, the actual recording process happened quickly.
“We wrote the hook in one night. That prayer came pouring out and the verses were completed in studio. We only released it when we knew it was honest,” they said.
With its emotional honesty and relatable message, Inqola is shaping up to be more than just another release for the duo,it is becoming an anthem for those carrying silent burdens while waiting for breakthrough.
