EZULWINI – His Majesty King Mswati III has informed visiting Parliamentarians and delegates that Ingwenyama Cup is used by Eswatini to equip local players for qualification to the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup.

The King was officially welcoming the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) Parliamentarians and delegates to the kingdom at a dinner held at Ezulwini Palazzo, International Convention Centre.

“This competition is not merely about participation or training in the field. It is about preparing ourselves so that one day we do not only participate on the global stage, but return home with the trophy. I can assure you, it will not be that long before we achieve this goal.
I have seen the capability, the talent, the energy, and the determination of the young people of Eswatini,” said the King.

He disclosed that even those visitors seated next to him during the Ingwenyama Cup game on Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium were admiring the resilience and commitment shown throughout the competition.

“Some were asking themselves if the athletes were not about to hurt themselves with the hard tackles on the ground. That was how they showed true strength of teamwork and collective effort and our young people will one day bring home the trophy, then the world will know what they are capable of achieving,” the King assured.

He then mentioned that with the spirit of determination and hospitality, the night was dedicated to welcoming all of the delegates, as well as their partners from the European Union partnership.

“We are grateful for the continued support of the European Union towards our headquarters in Belgium.
We are equally appreciative of the strategic leadership and the capable staff who continue to work tirelessly on behalf of the organisation. Their commitment and dedication have ensured that the institution continues to move forward effectively,” he said.

However, the King noted that they were informed of certain challenges, particularly regarding the management and maintenance of their OACPS headquarters.

“As you know, it is not appropriate for such an important institution to neglect its own infrastructure and responsibilities. Following these concerns, the Heads of State from Africa, the Pacific, and the Caribbean came together in unity and agreed that this situation could no longer continue.”

Together, he said they took the decision that they must strengthen and protect the institution, ensure proper stewardship of the headquarters, and build a stronger future for the generations to come.
