BUHLENI – More than 17 000 emaSwati and wellness enthusiasts from across the country turned out in impressive numbers for the Lidwala Wellness Walk 2026, completing a challenging 24-kilometre journey from Matsamo Border Gate to Buhleni Technical Centre in a powerful celebration of health, unity and active living.

The annual wellness event brought together people from different communities, including His Royal Highness Prince Mcwasho, the Minister of Health, Members of Parliament, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Health, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chief Executive Officer, the Hhohho Regional Administrator, health professionals and representatives from various organisations. The walk once again demonstrated the growing commitment among emaSwati to embrace healthier lifestyles while promoting unity through physical activity.

Participants set off from Matsamo Border Gate in the early hours of the morning and journeyed through the scenic route before reaching Buhleni Technical Centre. Despite the demanding 24-kilometre distance, thousands completed the walk with determination, encouragement and high spirits, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement, teamwork and celebration.

Officials from the health sector thanked and congratulated everyone who took part, emphasising that regular exercise is one of the most effective ways to prevent lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart related illnesses. They encouraged emaSwati to make physical activity part of their daily routine, saying healthy individuals contribute to stronger families and healthier communities.

The success of the event was made possible through the collaboration of several government ministries and stakeholders. While the Ministry of Health led the wellness initiative, other ministries supported transport logistics, coordination and other essential services that ensured the event ran smoothly from start to finish.

Addressing participants after completing the walk, His Royal Highness Prince Mcwasho thanked the nation for embracing the wellness campaign and commended the Royal Eswatini Police Service for ensuring the entire journey was safe and accident-free. He expressed delight at the growing number of participants each year, describing it as an encouraging sign that more people are recognising the importance of investing in their health.

Prince Mcwasho further praised the positive atmosphere that prevailed throughout the walk, noting that participants remained cheerful and motivated from the starting point to the finish line. He encouraged emaSwati to continue taking care of their bodies, saying good health is one of the country’s greatest assets.

The continued growth of the Lidwala Wellness Walk reflects the country’s increasing commitment to wellness, community participation and the promotion of healthier lifestyles for all.
