MANZINI – The country’s finest athletes are set to light up the Mavuso Sports Centre on May 30, 2026, in what is expected to be one of the biggest athletics events on the national sporting calendar.
The highly anticipated competition will bring together athletes who qualified during the recent qualifying rounds held two weeks ago, with participants from different regions of Eswatini expected to compete for top honours.
Athletes have already intensified their preparations ahead of the event, with many hoping to impress selectors, coaches, and supporters during the national showcase.
Communications Officer for Athletics Eswatini Victor “Mavikane” Dlamini said the event would not only celebrate athletic excellence but also provide entertainment for supporters attending the competition.
“We are expecting a great atmosphere at Mavuso Sports Centre. There will be fireworks, excitement, and high-level competition from some of the country’s best athletes,” said Dlamini.
He further revealed that the Minister of Sports, together with other Government stakeholders and sports officials, is expected to attend the event in support of athletics development in the Kingdom.
Dlamini encouraged emaSwati from all corners of the country to attend in large numbers and support the athletes, describing athletics as the foundation of many sporting codes.
“This is the mother of all sports, and we want people to come and witness the talent that Eswatini has. The athletes have been working very hard to prepare for this day,” he said.
Organisers believe the competition will also inspire young aspiring athletes who dream of representing the country at regional and international level competitions in the future.
Parents and guardians were also urged to attend and cheer on the athletes, with officials stressing the importance of family support in boosting athletes’ morale and confidence.
“The children and athletes feel motivated when their families are present. Support from the stands can make a huge difference in their performance,” added Dlamini.
The event is expected to attract athletics lovers, schools, coaches, sports administrators, and members of the public from across Eswatini.
Entrance to the event will be free for all spectators.
