MAYIWANE– Ludzibini High School, Ekubongeni High School and Nyakatfo High School were crowned champions in their respective sporting codes during the Eswatini Schools Sports Association (ESSA) Piggs Peak Branch games.
Ludzibini High School lifted the boys’ soccer title after producing strong performances throughout the tournament. Ekubongeni High School walked away with the ladies’ soccer championship, while Nyakatfo High School claimed top honours in netball following an impressive display during the competition.
Ekubongeni High School also finished as runners-up in the boys’ soccer category after narrowly missing out on the title. Mayiwane High School secured second position in both ladies’ soccer and netball, capping off a competitive outing for the school.
The tournament brought together schools from across the ESSA Piggs Peak Branch, with learners competing in a spirit of unity and healthy competition. Supporters, teachers and fellow learners were treated to entertaining matches as schools battled for supremacy in soccer and netball.
The soccer matches were characterised by fast-paced action and determination from the players, while the ladies’ soccer category continued to show the growth of girls’ football within schools in the branch. Netball teams also impressed spectators with their teamwork, discipline and tactical play throughout the games.
Speaking after the event, Khunga Nkhosi praised the learners for the effort and commitment they displayed during the tournament.
“What we saw during the games was more than competition. We saw teamwork, discipline, resilience and incredible team spirit,” he said.
He further highlighted the importance of school sports in developing young people, saying sporting activities help learners build confidence, discipline and leadership skills both on and off the field.
The ESSA Piggs Peak Branch games once again provided a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent while strengthening relationships among schools in the branch.
