MBABANE – Excitement filled the streets of Mbabane on this morning as learners, teachers, tertiary students and government officials gathered at Coronation Park for a STEM sensitization event aimed at encouraging young people to embrace science, technology and innovation.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Education and Training together with the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology, began with an energetic awareness walk around town led by drum majorettes. The colourful procession attracted attention from members of the public, with many stopping to watch and cheer as learners proudly marched through the capital city.
Held under the theme “Accelerate STEM and Digital Transformation for a Resilient Economy and Enhanced Quality of Life,” the campaign seeks to prepare learners for the upcoming national STEM expos that will be held across the country this month.
Speaking during the event, the Regional Education Officer (REO) for Mbabane thanked schools, tertiary institutions and government ministries for supporting the initiative. The REO emphasized that the programme is meant to benefit the entire country and not only the Mbabane area.
“This is about building the future of Eswatini through education, innovation and technology. Every region must take part because these opportunities belong to all emaSwati,” said the REO.

The STEM expos are expected to officially launch on the 8th of this month before moving to different regions. Manzini will host the first expo on the 9th, followed by Hhohho on the 11th, Shiselweni on the 16th and Lubombo on the 19th.
Different institutions attended the sensitization event, including Limkokwing University, ECoT, IDM, Eswatini Medical Rescue, BSA Training and several high schools from around Mbabane.
For many young learners, the event brought hope and inspiration. Some were seen interacting with exhibitors and asking questions about careers in technology, engineering and health sciences.
As Eswatini continues to embrace digital transformation, the STEM expos are expected to play an important role in motivating young people to dream bigger and become part of the country’s growing innovation journey.
