LOBAMBA– The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has congratulated National Commissioner (NC) Vusi Manoma Masango on his appointment as Chairperson of the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation for the 2026–2027 term.
The congratulatory message was delivered by Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Vice Chairperson Manzi Zwane on July 30,2026 during the committee’s sitting with the Prime Minister’s Office, where officials from the Royal Eswatini Police Service appeared before the committee.
PAC Vice Chairperson said the country is proud of Masango’s appointment and wished him success in leading the regional policing body.
National Commissioner assumed the regional leadership role during the SARPCCO Annual General Meeting held in June 2026. His appointment marks Eswatini’s return to the helm of the regional organisation after 23 years.
SARPCCO is the regional body responsible for strengthening cooperation among police services in the 16 member states of the Southern African Development Community.
The organisation coordinates efforts to combat cross-border and transnational organised crime while promoting intelligence sharing, joint law enforcement operations, policy harmonisation and professional policing standards across the region.
Among the priority crimes tackled by SARPCCO are terrorism, human trafficking, migrant smuggling, illicit firearms trafficking, drug trafficking and cross-border vehicle theft. The organisation also works closely with INTERPOL to strengthen regional and international law enforcement cooperation.
Masango becomes the first emaSwati police chief to lead SARPCCO in more than two decades. The last law enforcement official from Eswatini to hold the position was former National Commissioner of Police Edgar Hillary, who chaired the organisation before the country’s 23-year absence from the top regional post.
The appointment has been widely viewed as recognition of Eswatini’s contribution to regional security and is expected to strengthen cooperation among Southern African police services in addressing increasingly sophisticated cross-border crime.
