MBABANE – Prime Minister Russell Dlamini has emphasized that building a capable, professional and responsive public service is one of government’s top priorities as it works to improve service delivery and accelerate national development across the Kingdom.
The Prime Minister made the remarks after meeting a high-level delegation from the Eastern and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI), led by Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service Mthunzi Shabangu and ESAMI Director General Professor Peter Kiuluku.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in public sector capacity building, leadership development and institutional excellence, with both parties exploring ways to equip public servants with the knowledge and skills required to deliver efficient, citizen-centred services.
Dlamini said an effective public service forms the backbone of government, ensuring that policies and development programmes translate into tangible improvements in the lives of emaSwati.
“A responsive public service is critical to achieving government’s development goals and delivering quality services to the people,” he said.
He noted that government remains committed to investing in the professional growth of public servants through strategic partnerships that enhance technical expertise, leadership skills and institutional performance.
Dlamini welcomed ESAMI’s continued collaboration with Eswatini, describing the regional institution as an important partner in strengthening the country’s public administration.
He said developing human capital remains essential to building a modern public service capable of responding efficiently to emerging national priorities while maintaining high standards of accountability, professionalism and innovation.
Dlamini further stated that strengthening institutions through continuous training and leadership development would contribute to improved governance, more efficient public administration and stronger implementation of national development programmes.
He expressed appreciation to the ESAMI delegation for the courtesy visit, saying the engagement reflected a shared commitment to building resilient public institutions that can effectively meet the expectations of citizens.
The Prime Minister added that government looks forward to expanding its partnership with ESAMI in support of ongoing public sector reforms aimed at improving efficiency, professionalism and service delivery across all government ministries and departments.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of investing in leadership development as a catalyst for institutional excellence, innovation and sustainable development.
With governments across the region placing increasing emphasis on modernising public administration, the partnership between Eswatini and ESAMI is expected to create new opportunities for training, knowledge exchange and capacity building, helping ensure that public servants are better equipped to provide faster, more responsive and higher-quality services to emaSwati.
The engagement reinforces government’s commitment to building a public service that is efficient, accountable and capable of driving the country’s long-term development agenda while improving the everyday experiences of citizens accessing government services.
