NTFONJENI – Residents of Mbasheni have received a major boost in their quest for reliable access to clean and safe water after the successful completion of the first phase of a community water project.
Speaking on the progress of the initiative, Indvuna Yenkhundla Mandla Magagula said the initial phase was made possible through the support of Microprojects and Rural Water, with Rural Water responsible for drilling the community borehole.
“The first phase of the project has been completed successfully. We are grateful to Microprojects and Rural Water for their support, particularly for drilling the borehole, which forms the foundation of this important initiative,” said Magagula.
He explained that the project has now entered a critical stage, where additional financial support is required to complete the second phase. He appealed to stakeholders, including Rural Water, Enkhundleni and other potential partners, to continue supporting the initiative so that it can be completed.
According to Magagula, once finished, the project will distribute water from the newly drilled borehole through a network of pipelines supplying households across the Mbasheni community, ensuring residents have reliable access to clean and safe water.
“Our ultimate goal is to ensure that every household in the community has access to water. The borehole will serve as the main source, with water piped throughout the community,” he said.
The entire project is expected to cost approximately E2 million upon completion. Community leaders remain optimistic that continued support from development partners, sponsors and other stakeholders will enable the remaining phases to be completed successfully, bringing lasting relief to residents who have endured water supply challenges for many years.
Once completed, the Mbasheni Water Project is expected to improve public health, reduce the time residents spend fetching water and enhance the overall quality of life for families in the area. The initiative also reflects the continued commitment by government and its development partners to expanding access to essential services and improving living conditions in communities under Ntfonjeni Inkhundla.
