MAYIWANE– Member of Parliament Scelo Khungankhosi Dlamini has reaffirmed his commitment to improving education by conducting another Vusela Exercise at Baleni Primary School in Mayiwane Inkhundla, near Mcuba. The engagement provided teachers with an opportunity to openly discuss the challenges affecting the school while fostering dialogue aimed at finding lasting solutions.
During the visit, teachers highlighted several issues they believe require urgent attention to enhance the teaching and learning environment.
Among the concerns raised was the prolonged employment of some educators on contract, with teachers expressing hope for permanent appointments to provide greater job security and stability within the education sector.
Teachers also noted that some educators possess high school teaching qualifications but are currently serving in primary schools, saying they would appreciate opportunities that allow them to fully utilise their qualifications and expertise.
Infrastructure was another key issue discussed, with staff explaining that the school’s ageing buildings have become dilapidated over the years. They expressed optimism that rehabilitation and renovation projects would help create a safer and more conducive learning environment for pupils.
The need for teachers’ housing was also raised, with educators noting that accommodation close to the school would improve convenience and contribute to better service delivery, particularly for those travelling long distances.
The Vusela Exercise served as a valuable platform for constructive engagement between the Member of Parliament and the teaching staff, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening education in Mayiwane Inkhundla.
Teachers welcomed the opportunity to voice their concerns and expressed hope that the discussions would pave the way for practical interventions that will improve both the welfare of educators and the quality of education offered at Baleni Primary School.
