MKHUZWENI- As the football league takes a break, the boots of seasoned players will return to the pitch as Khungankhosi brings communities together for a social tournament designed to keep men active, healthy and connected.
The Khungankhosi E5 000 Social Teams Tournament, scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Mkhuzweni Technical Centre, will see players aged 35 years and above competing in a celebration of football, friendship and community spirit.
The tournament is established to give men an opportunity to remain physically active and engaged during the break in the regular football season.
“Organising this event is to try and keep our men busy and healthy since it’s football break. Before the soccer league resumes, let us entertain our elders, since those aged 35 years and above will be playing,” said Khungankhosi.
The tournament will initially focus solely on soccer, with the organiser saying the initiative is intended to provide a platform where experienced players can enjoy the sport while maintaining their fitness.
Teams drawn from different communities will participate, making the tournament not only a sporting competition but also an opportunity to strengthen community relations.
Khungankhosi has urged residents to come out in numbers and support the players, promising a day filled with excitement and happiness.
“I invite residents to come in numbers since it will be a day filled with happiness,” he said.
The organiser further revealed that the social tournament could become a recurring initiative, particularly during breaks in the active football league.
“The tournament includes people from our different communities. We will be doing the same in future, especially during the break of the active league,” he said.
With seasoned players taking centre stage, the tournament is expected to demonstrate that a break from competitive league football does not mean a break from the love of the beautiful game.
