MANZINI The countdown to the Mlawula Campfire Festival is leaving the usual posters and social media announcements behind, as the festival takes its build-up to Sidvokodvo this Saturday.

The festival roadshow will take place at Tums Filling Station from 10am to 3pm, bringing music and entertainment to the community ahead of the main event at Mlawula Nature Reserve from 25 to 27 September.

Artists Zulu D and Sgitha are set to provide the entertainment for the afternoon, giving festival followers a small taste of the atmosphere that organisers hope will carry into the September weekend.

For some festival-goers, the roadshow will be their first chance to get a feel for this year’s edition without waiting for the camping weekend itself. It also brings the festival closer to audiences in the area as organisers continue building momentum around the seventh edition.

But while the name Campfire Festival may suggest a weekend dominated by music, dancing and outdoor fun, this year’s programme is also making room for faith. Gospel artists Linda Dlamini and Shongwe & Khuphuka Saved Group have been announced among the acts for the festival, adding a worship element to the three-day gathering.

Their presence means the campfire will have more than one kind of energy. Between the music, camping and social atmosphere, gospel performances are expected to give attendees moments to slow down, sing along and connect through faith.

The festival is scheduled for 25 to 27 September at Mlawula Nature Reserve, with the roadshow in Sidvokodvo forming part of the journey towards the main weekend. As Saturday approaches, the question is no longer simply whether people are ready to camp it is whether Sidvokodvo is ready to get a first taste of what Mlawula has in store.
