MANZINI– Some gospel performances are built around the big song everyone knows. Others slowly draw a room into worship until the performance itself begins to feel like a prayer. That is the space South African gospel artist and worship leader Oncemore Six is expected to occupy when he headlines the latest Mount Zion Experience in Eswatini on October 30.
Oncemore Six is no stranger to Eswatini’s gospel stage, having previously performed at the Mother of All Gospel Shows. Now, the South African gospel artist is set to return to the country, bringing a worship style that has become closely associated with his live performances.
For Oncemore Six, the appeal of his music lies beyond simply performing songs. His catalogue includes worship tracks such as Here On Our Knees, Ngeke Ng’Suke Kuwe, Ohlonishwayo and Umkhuleko We Bandla, with his performances often built around creating space for worship rather than treating the stage purely as a concert platform.
His return to Eswatini therefore comes with some familiarity. Having already performed for a local gospel audience, his appearance at The Mount Experience gives him another opportunity to connect with Emaswati through a sound that has travelled beyond his South African base.
Oncemore Six has also continued to make appearances on regional gospel stages, including Zimbabwe’s Ekhaya Worship Festival, where he shared the line-up with other gospel performers from across the region. The Mount Experience will run from 6pm on Friday until 6am the following morning, with its programme centred on word, prayer, hymns, psalms and spiritual songs.
Rather than a conventional concert built around a single headline performance, the overnight format gives Oncemore Six and the other participants room to become part of a longer worship experience, where music will form one part of the night. For an artist who has already encountered the Eswatini gospel audience, his return will be another chance to let the music do the talking.
