PIGG’S PEAK – Mental health in the workplace was highlighted as a very important factor in maintaining happy, stable and productive employees, as the Lisango Movement engaged workers at Mvakali Investment on gender-based violence (GBV), abuse and mental wellbeing.
The workplace awareness engagement was aimed at helping employees understand issues that can affect their mental health and overall wellbeing, while encouraging open conversations around GBV, abuse and other challenges that workers may face in their daily lives.
Speaking during the engagement, Lisango Movement founder Muzi Nxumalo emphasized that companies need mentally stable and happy workers to achieve efficient work production.
“For efficient work production in every company, mentally stable and happy workers are needed,” Nxumalo said.
He said mental health should not be treated as a personal issue that employees must deal with alone, noting that workplaces have an important role to play in creating environments where workers feel supported and are able to speak about challenges affecting them.
The engagement also focused on gender-based violence and abuse, with workers encouraged to recognize different forms of abuse and understand the impact such experiences can have on an individual’s emotional and psychological wellbeing.
GBV and workplace-related stress can affect employees beyond their working hours, potentially influencing their relationships, concentration and general quality of life. The discussion therefore encouraged workers to seek help and support when facing difficult circumstances.
Nxumalo further encouraged employees to look out for one another and to avoid remaining silent when they or their colleagues are experiencing situations that may negatively affect their mental wellbeing.
The engagement forms part of Lisango Movement’s broader efforts to create spaces where communities can openly discuss GBV, mental health and other social challenges, while promoting awareness and support.
The Mvakali Investment engagement also underscored the importance of viewing employee wellbeing as part of a healthy workplace, where workers can feel valued, supported and motivated to contribute effectively to the organization.
