SIPHOFANENI – Siphofaneni Member of Parliament Nomalungelo Simelane has called for a return to unity and love among people, saying the Nkosinatsi Suspension Footbridge symbolises the importance of bringing communities together.
Speaking during the official opening of the bridge, Simelane expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, Microprojects and Engineers in Action for making the project possible.
She described the bridge as a sign of God’s love, noting that it connects people and reflects the unity she believes communities should strive to maintain. Simelane said she wished people could return to living in harmony and showing love for one another, drawing a connection between the bridge’s role in linking communities and the need for people to rebuild their relationships.
Her message went beyond the physical structure, highlighting how development can also serve as a reminder of the social bonds that hold communities together. Through her remarks, Simelane encouraged people to embrace the spirit represented by the bridge by choosing unity over division and treating one another with love and understanding.

Simelane’s message challenges communities to look beyond the bridge’s physical purpose and build stronger connections among themselves. As people cross from one side to the other, her call is for them to also bridge the divisions between them, restore lost relationships and choose love over hatred. The bridge may connect communities across a distance, but it is up to the people themselves to keep their hearts connected.
