MLAWULA – By the time Boohle stepped onto the stage on Saturday night, the Mlawula Campfire Festival crowd was already warmed up. But it did not take long for the South African singer to turn the Night Groove Session into one big sing-along.
The crowd had been building towards the headline performance after South African influencer and former Big Brother Mzansi housemate Mich got the night moving, setting the tone for what would become a high-energy session.
When Boohle arrived, fans immediately responded to the familiar sounds from her catalogue, singing along, dancing and pushing closer to the stage as she worked her way through her set. The performance became even more personal when Lifalethu Schwartz was invited onto the stage to join Boohle and her team for the Ng’bambe Duze dance.
What could have been an ordinary fan moment quickly became one of the night’s talking points as Schwartz matched the energy on stage, drawing cheers from the crowd.
Throughout the performance, Boohle kept the audience involved. Fans sang back to her, danced to the music and responded to the moments she created on stage, making the performance feel less like something they were simply watching and more like something they were experiencing with her.
Her appearance came after a full Saturday programme that had already brought together food, culture and music at the festival. The day included the Cook-Off Challenge and cultural performances before the Night Groove Session moved through a variety of sounds.
Shongwe neKhuphuka Saved Group and Linda Dlamini brought gospel to the stage, while Sancheziey added a cultural element to the evening. Zulu D and Sintour later kept the crowd moving before Boohle took over.
By the time the headline act arrived, the festival had shifted from a day of different activities into a full Saturday night groove and Boohle gave the crowd exactly the kind of performance that kept them on their feet.
