MBABANE – Residents living under the Buhleni precinct have been urged to remain alert following reports of dangerous wild animals roaming communities around Ntab’nezimpisi, Fun City, Masheleleni and nearby Mhlangatane areas.
The warning was issued Monday, May 25,2026 by the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS), which confirmed that a wild animal believed to possibly be a leopard, wild dog or another dangerous species has been spotted on different dates within the affected communities.
Police said although residents have given varying descriptions of the animal, community members should remain cautious and immediately report any sightings to authorities.
The alert follows a series of wildlife-related incidents reported in the area over the past few months.
On May 25, 2026, reports surfaced of a “mysterious” animal roaming around Ntab’nezimpisi, Fun City and Masheleleni. Some residents suspected the animal could be a leopard, while others believed it resembled a wild dog.
Just days earlier, on May 23, 2026, a leopard was reportedly killed in Buhleni after it was discovered hiding in nearby bushes. Reports indicated that the animal fought off several dogs before it was eventually overpowered by residents.
In April 2026, suspected hyenas allegedly attacked and killed livestock in grazing areas around Mhlangatane, causing fear among farmers and livestock owners. Wildlife officials were reportedly monitoring the situation and planning interventions to track the animals.
Earlier this year, in February 2026, police also warned residents after a crocodile was reportedly spotted near a bridge in the Masheleleni and Buhleni areas following heavy rains.
Authorities have urged residents not to attempt to hunt, trap or confront the animals themselves, warning that such actions could place lives in danger.
Residents have further been advised to closely monitor children, avoid walking alone at night and ensure livestock are secured away from bushes, forests and riverbanks.
Police and local leaders continue to encourage residents to promptly report sightings and livestock losses as efforts continue to protect communities from possible attacks.
