MSHINGISHINI – Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) Chief Executive Officer Stanley Dlamini has responded to a question on the relationship between religion and participation in cultural activities, during an educational engagement held at the Mshingishingini Royal Kraal.
The question was raised by Mshingishingini resident Mrs Phumlile Matsebula, who sought clarity on what a person should do if their religion does not allow them to participate in cultural activities conducted at the Royal Kraal.
Responding to the question, Dlamini referred to the Bible and said it supports respect for Kings on earth before respecting God in heaven.
Dlamini’s response formed part of the broader discussions aimed at educating residents about SiSwati culture and traditions and encouraging communities to understand the significance of cultural practices.
The engagement brought together residents and cultural practitioners in an interactive programme where community members were given an opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification on issues surrounding culture and tradition.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of dialogue when cultural and religious beliefs raise questions for members of the community.
ENCAC is mandated to facilitate the development of arts and culture in Eswatini, with its work including the promotion and preservation of the country’s cultural heritage.
The Mshingishingini programme provided a platform for residents to engage directly with cultural authorities, with questions from the community forming an important part of the learning process.
