MBABANE– Learners at Mothsane High School recently experienced culture beyond textbooks as they took part in an interactive educational session aimed at helping young people reconnect with emaSwati traditions, history and identity.
According to information shared on the Eswatini National Trust Commission (ENTC) Facebook page, the cultural education class was conducted through the Eswatini National Museum and introduced learners to traditional knowledge, cultural discussions and interactive educational activities.
The session allowed learners to actively participate in discussions about emaSwati heritage while also taking part in traditional games and practical learning experiences designed to make cultural education more engaging.
For many young people growing up in a fast-changing digital world, opportunities to learn directly about traditional customs and indigenous knowledge are becoming less common. Programmes such as these are increasingly viewed as important in helping preserve national identity and pass cultural values to future generations.
ENTC, which is responsible for preserving Eswatini’s natural and cultural heritage, continues to use schools and museums as platforms to promote awareness about the country’s traditions and history. Through museums, heritage sites and educational outreach programmes, the organisation works to ensure that emaSwati culture remains relevant among younger generations.
The Commission also encouraged schools to partner with the Eswatini National Museum for similar cultural education experiences, especially those facing challenges in delivering practical cultural learning in classrooms.
The initiative highlighted how cultural education can be made more interactive and meaningful by allowing learners to engage directly with stories, traditions and activities linked to emaSwati heritage.
As modernization continues to influence lifestyles and social values, heritage education is increasingly being seen as an important tool for protecting cultural identity while helping young people appreciate where they come from.
The programme at Mothsane High School also reflected growing efforts to blend education with cultural preservation in ways that inspire curiosity, participation and pride among learners.
