MBABANE– House music enthusiasts are in for a memorable Friday evening as Eswatini’s veteran DJ and producer DJ Mixmash heads to Mozambique for an exclusive performance at The Backroom’s After-Work Deep House Set in Maputo.
The highly anticipated event will take place on Friday, July 10, from 6:30pm at The Backroom, one of Maputo’s renowned live music and lifestyle venues. Music lovers can expect an evening of soulful deep house rhythms, premium entertainment and an intimate atmosphere designed to ease them into the weekend.
Born Sicelo Mashwama, DJ Mixmash said he was honoured to have been invited to perform at one of Mozambique’s respected entertainment venues, describing the booking as another important milestone in his career.
“I’m incredibly honoured to have been invited to perform at The Backroom in Maputo, one of Mozambique’s respected live music and lifestyle venues. This booking means a great deal to me because it’s not just another performance; it’s an opportunity to represent Eswatini’s music industry beyond our borders and continue building meaningful collaborations within the Southern African region,” he said.
“I believe music has the power to connect people and cultures, and I’m excited to be part of that journey.”
The performance marks DJ Mixmash’s return to Mozambique more than a decade after his previous appearance in the country. He said the upcoming show represents a fresh chapter, both personally and professionally.
“This won’t be my first performance in Mozambique, as I had the privilege of playing there over a decade ago. However, this invitation feels like a new chapter in my career. The music industry has evolved tremendously since then, and so has my own journey as a DJ. I’m approaching this performance with renewed experience, a broader musical perspective and a vision of creating stronger musical exchange between Eswatini and Mozambique.”
Fans attending the event can expect an expertly curated musical journey showcasing the signature sound that has made DJ Mixmash one of Eswatini’s most respected house music pioneers.
“Fans can expect a blissful musical journey. Beyond the music, I hope this performance becomes the beginning of more collaborations between artists, promoters and music lovers across the region. Having recently had the opportunity to perform in Zanzibar, I’m intentionally working towards taking the DJ Mixmash brand to more international stages, and I hope this is another important step in that journey.”
With a career spanning more than a decade, DJ Mixmash has established himself as one of Eswatini’s pioneering house music DJs and producers. He first rose to prominence as a member of the group Swazi Pride before launching a successful solo career. His 2010 debut album, Tru Soundz Vol. 1, featuring the hit single Vuzavuza, cemented his place in the country’s house music scene.
Over the years, he has performed at numerous festivals and leading venues across Eswatini and South Africa while collaborating with several local artists. His influence has also helped pave the way for a new generation of electronic music stars, including DJ Cup and Tribal Natives, who are now making waves on regional stages.
As anticipation builds ahead of Friday’s performance, all signs point to an unforgettable night where soulful beats, vibrant energy and international musical exchange will take centre stage in the heart of Maputo.
