MBABANE- Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla has joined regional Heads of State and Government in Lusaka, Zambia, for the inauguration of President-elect Hakainde Hichilema at the National Heroes Stadium today.
Dladla arrived in Zambia ahead of the ceremony, representing Eswatini at an event expected to bring together leaders from across the region and other international dignitaries.
According to information released by the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS), Dladla was among several high-profile leaders who arrived in Lusaka ahead of Hichilema’s swearing-in.
Her arrival comes alongside that of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Botswana President Duma Boko, Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and Kenyan President William Ruto.
The gathering of regional leaders underscores the significance of the inauguration and the close diplomatic ties between Zambia and fellow African countries.
Hichilema is set to take the oath of office for a second five-year term following his victory in the August 13, 2026 presidential election. His running mate, Mutale Nalumango, is also expected to be sworn in as Vice-President.
The inauguration is being held at the National Heroes Stadium. The Zambian Government declared September 1 a public holiday to allow citizens to witness the swearing-in ceremony.
Hichilema has already signalled his readiness for the ceremony.
The presence of Dladla also highlights Eswatini’s continued engagement with Zambia within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) framework. The two countries maintain cordial relations and cooperate in areas including trade, education, health and agriculture.
The inauguration comes as Lusaka hosts thousands of citizens, invited guests and international visitors, with the stadium serving as the centre of celebrations marking Hichilema’s return to office for a second term.
