MBABANE – Eswatini comedian Dr Shakes is set to take his humour beyond borders as he prepares to perform in Uganda at the “Jokes From Far Away 2026” comedy show, headlined by Ugandan comedian Dr Hilary Okello. The show will take place on 1 May at Motiv in Bugolobi, Kampala, starting at 8pm.
Dr Shakes, known for his relatable and grounded comedy style, will feature as a guest performer, marking another milestone in his growing career. The event is expected to attract comedy lovers from across Uganda, offering a mix of cultural perspectives and humour.
Speaking ahead of the show, Dr Shakes expressed excitement about performing for a new audience. He said the experience of connecting with unfamiliar crowds is what makes comedy special. “There’s something special about a new crowd,you don’t know them, they don’t know you, but for that one night you meet in the middle through laughter,” he said.
The comedian highlighted that taking his craft to Uganda is both humbling and rewarding. What started as small performances in Eswatini has now grown into opportunities beyond the country’s borders. He noted that the journey reminds him that humour transcends language and culture.
Audiences in Kampala can expect an authentic performance rooted in his personal experiences. Dr Shakes emphasised that he remains true to himself on stage, delivering jokes inspired by his background and everyday life. “I’m bringing my stories, my perspective. It’s going to be fun, a bit personal, and definitely relatable,” he added.
To prepare for the show, Dr Shakes said he does basic research on the audience and culture but avoids overthinking. He believes comedy is about connection, and once on stage, he adapts to the crowd’s energy.
The show will feature various ticket options, including early bird and VIP packages, making it accessible to a wide audience. As anticipation builds, Dr Shakes’ participation signals the growing reach of Eswatini’s creative talent on the international stage.
