MANZINI– Preparations are well underway as the Imbali continue with their rehearsals at the Eswatini National Trust Commission (ENTC) ahead of the upcoming Umhlanga Reed Dance Ceremony, scheduled to take place from 25 August to 1 September 2026.
The 2026 Reed Dance programme will begin on Tuesday, 25 August, with the arrival and registration of the maidens at Ludzidzini Royal Residence. On Wednesday, 26 August, the participants will be commissioned at Ngabezweni Royal Residence. On Thursday, 27 August, the Imbali will take part in reed cutting at designated cutting areas. This will be followed by transporting and returning with the reeds on Friday, 28 August, at the designated cutting areas and Ludzidzini Royal Residence. Saturday, 29 August, will be a rest day at Ludzidzini Royal Residence. On Sunday, 30 August, the maidens will present the reed before Their Majesties at Ludzidzini Royal Residence.
The programme will continue on Monday, 31 August, with the main Reed Dance Day and National Public Holiday at Ludzidzini Royal Residence. The ongoing rehearsals reflect the importance of preserving and promoting Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage. They also demonstrate the role of cultural practices in ensuring that traditions are passed on to future generations with pride, dignity and respect.

The Umhlanga Reed Dance provides an opportunity for these traditions to be observed with pride, dignity and respect, while encouraging future generations to value and uphold Eswatini’s cultural heritage.
