MBABANE– Eswatini continues to register measurable progress in poverty reduction and inclusive development, with officials crediting four decades of leadership under His Majesty King Mswati III for shaping the nation’s course.
Principal Planning Officer in the Poverty Reduction Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, Lungile Mndzebele, extended congratulations to the King on his 40 years on the throne, highlighting the tangible gains achieved during his reign.
Government has implemented key frameworks such as the National Development Strategy (1997–2022) and the Poverty Reduction Strategy and Action Programme to drive socio-economic transformation. These interventions have contributed to a decline in poverty levels from 69 percent to 58.9 percent, reflecting sustained efforts to improve livelihoods.
The country has also strengthened community upliftment through targeted initiatives, including the Poverty Reduction Fund and the Regional Development Fund. These programmes continue to support vulnerable households, stimulate local economies, and expand opportunities across the Kingdom.
“Eswatini continues to register a rise in the number of emaSwati alleviated from poverty, and through sustained development efforts, the country is steadily progressing towards levels associated with developed economies,” Mndzebele said.
Eswatini continues to align its development agenda with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a focus on poverty eradication, quality education, and improved health outcomes. This alignment reinforces the country’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth.
Stakeholders across government and communities actively collaborate to implement policies and programmes that drive progress. This coordinated approach ensures that development efforts reach even the most remote areas, strengthening resilience and promoting equity.
As the Kingdom marks this milestone, the 40-year reign stands as a reflection of consistent leadership, national unity, and a shared vision for a prosperous future.
