GENEVA– Eswatini, led by Minister for Health Hon. Mduduzi Matsebula, is participating in a high-level African meeting aimed at strengthening the continent’s collective voice ahead of the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA79), which officially begins tomorrow.
The Ministry of Health said the Eswatini delegation was taking part in the Africa High-Level Ministerial Committee (AHLMC) on Global Health Architecture Reform, a strategic gathering hosted by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in the margins of the upcoming global assembly.
According to information shared by the ministry, the meeting forms part of a series of preparatory engagements convened by African states ahead of the World Health Assembly to consolidate the continent’s position on key global health matters.
The ministry explained that the objective of the ministerial committee was to ensure that African countries speak with one voice during deliberations at the 79th World Health Assembly, widely regarded as one of the most important global platforms for shaping international health policy and priorities.
It was further stated that discussions at the preparatory meeting would focus on reforms to global health architecture, including strengthening Africa’s representation and influence in international health governance, financing and decision-making processes.
Minister Matsebula and the Eswatini delegation are expected to join other health ministers and senior officials from across the continent in aligning Africa’s priorities before formal discussions begin at the World Health Assembly.
The World Health Assembly, convened annually by the World Health Organization, brings together member states to discuss major global health issues, adopt policies and set priorities for international public health cooperation.
Eswatini’s participation in the preparatory meeting reflects the country’s continued engagement in regional and continental health diplomacy as African nations seek greater coordination in addressing shared healthcare challenges and advancing common interests on the global stage.
