HLATHIKHULU- Rapper GB Aries99 marks his long-awaited comeback with Spirit freestyle release.
With a hunger that refuses to fade, Hlathikhulu-born artist GB Aries99 is making his way back into the music scene, reigniting his passion through a freestyle inspired by Kwesta ft. Wale’s celebrated hit Spirit.
Sizwe Ndzinisa, known by his stage name GB Aries99, first fell in love with music during his high school days at Ebenezer High School, where rap cyphers and school events became the breeding ground for his artistry. “We used to rap to beats with peeps and even perform during school events,” he recalls. “That’s when I knew music was in me.”
Although his focus on studies kept him from consistently releasing music, GB is ready to reintroduce himself to fans. “Spirit is just a freestyle, not an official track,” he explains. “It’s actually a way of telling people that I’m back on business and I’ll be dropping soon.”
His stage name carries personal meaning, drawn from his second name, “Goodboy,” shortened by friends to GB, and paired with Aries99 to represent his star sign and birth year. His influences include local trailblazers like Diba Diba, Qibho, and Eimsofly, whose originality and use of SiSwati shaped his style. “I loved the way they embraced our language. In my music, I use both English and SiSwati, something I took from them.”
Residing in Hlathikhulu, a rural town with limited resources, hasn’t been easy for him as an artist, but it has only strengthened his resolve. “I wanted my fans to receive Spirit with hope and energy,” he says. “I wanted them to hear my hunger and determination to keep going no matter what.”
Beyond the freestyle, GB Aries99 promises fresh sounds infused with both personal experiences and reflections of the world around him. “It’s a new level of creativity and energy. I’ve been experimenting with different sounds, so it’s gonna feel fresh but familiar.”
Looking ahead, collaborations are high on his agenda. “They’re so important because they bring different sounds and stories together,” he emphasizes. His ultimate message to the youth is simple but powerful: “Possibility. I want them to know that no dream is too big, no matter where you come from.”
With Spirit setting the tone, fans can expect GB Aries99’s next wave of music to be filled with passion, energy, and a reminder that resilience can turn small-town dreams into big realities.
