EZULWINI – Government has officially commissioned the first-ever Board of Directors for the Eswatini International Convention Centre (ICC), marking a significant milestone in the management and future growth of one of the Kingdom’s flagship tourism and business infrastructure investments.
The newly appointed board has been entrusted with providing strategic leadership, strengthening corporate governance and ensuring that the world-class facility fulfils its mandate of positioning Eswatini as a premier destination for international conferences, exhibitions, meetings and major events.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs Jane Mkhonta-Simelane described the appointment of the inaugural board as a major step towards unlocking the ICC’s full potential as a catalyst for economic development.
The Minister said the board carries the important responsibility of safeguarding Government’s investment while providing sound oversight that will ensure the facility operates efficiently, remains financially sustainable and continues contributing to the country’s tourism and investment agenda.
She noted that beyond hosting conferences and exhibitions, the ICC is expected to stimulate economic activity through increased visitor arrivals, business tourism, job creation and opportunities for local enterprises operating within the hospitality and events industries.
The newly commissioned Board comprises respected professionals drawn from diverse fields, bringing together expertise expected to strengthen the institution’s governance and strategic direction.
The members are Prince Saziwangaye, Chairperson Mbusi Nhlanhla Simelane, Celucolo Peter Dludlu, Samukelisiwe Mpimbili-Dlamini, Lindiwe Gwebu and Sifiso Crispin Dlamini.
Their appointment comes at a time when Government continues to prioritise tourism as one of the country’s key economic growth sectors, with the ICC expected to play a central role in attracting regional and international meetings, conventions and investment forums.
With the first Board of Directors now in place, expectations are high that the Eswatini International Convention Centre will continue building its reputation as a world-class venue capable of hosting prestigious global events while delivering lasting economic benefits for the Kingdom.
