MBABANE – Hundreds of families in Mkhiweni Inkhundla can now look forward to healthier lives after Government officially commissioned nine potable water supply schemes worth E18.352 million, bringing safe and reliable drinking water to 706 homesteads.
The projects, commissioned on June 25,2026 by the Minister of Natural Resources and Energy Hon Prince Lonkhokhela, are located at Lombatsela, Mphelave, Mcithazwe, Moyeni, Lukhitsi, Mtfonjeni, Simunye and Mnjoli in the Manzini Region.
The initiative forms part of a partnership between Government and World Vision Eswatini aimed at expanding access to clean water in 18 Tinkhundla between 2025 and 2029.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Minister said access to safe drinking water is central to improving the health, dignity and livelihoods of emaSwati, particularly women and children who are often the hardest hit by water shortages.
He said achieving universal access to clean water and sanitation requires strong collaboration between Government, development partners, the private sector, local authorities and communities. He commended World Vision Eswatini and the beneficiary communities for working together to ensure the successful completion of the projects.
The commissioning also coincides with the country’s observance of Children and Youth Month, underscoring the importance of clean water in protecting the health and well-being of children and young people.
The water schemes contribute to Eswatini’s drive towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6 on clean water and sanitation by 2030, while advancing the country’s broader agenda of improving essential services and strengthening rural development.
Government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding water infrastructure nationwide, with stakeholders encouraged to continue investing in the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector to ensure every Liswati has access to safe and reliable drinking water.
