MBABANE – Deputy Mayor Vusi Tembe has called on Mbabane residents to make voluntary blood donation a way of life, urging young people, businesses and community leaders to play an active role in strengthening the country’s healthcare system and saving lives.
Tembe made the appeal during the commemoration of World Blood Donor Day 2026 held in Mbabane under the theme, “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.”
Addressing delegates at the event, the Deputy Mayor said the theme carries a powerful message, reminding people that even a single drop of blood has the ability to restore hope and give patients another chance at life.
He said the City of Mbabane was honoured to host the important national event, which brought together government officials, healthcare partners, young people and members of the public in a united effort to promote voluntary blood donation.
According to Tembe, blood donation remains one of the most selfless acts an individual can perform because it directly contributes to saving the lives of others without expecting anything in return.
He noted that blood donation goes beyond social, cultural and economic differences, uniting communities through a shared commitment to helping those in need.
Tembe stressed that a safe and reliable blood supply remains a cornerstone of a healthy healthcare system, making it essential for more citizens to become regular blood donors.
Rather than viewing blood donation as a once-off activity, he encouraged residents to make it a lifelong habit that contributes to the wellbeing of communities across the country.
The Deputy Mayor further challenged residents to reflect on the role they can play in saving lives and supporting national blood donation initiatives.
He said every donation has the potential to make a difference for patients facing medical emergencies, surgeries and other critical healthcare needs.
As Eswatini joined the rest of the world in observing World Blood Donor Day, Tembe’s message was clear: the responsibility of maintaining an adequate blood supply belongs to everyone, and through regular donations, communities can help ensure that no life is lost due to a shortage of blood.
The event served as both a celebration of existing blood donors and a call to action for more emaSwati to step forward and become part of a lifesaving movement that continues to bring hope to thousands of patients every year.
