MBABANE– His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) has reinforced its regional cooperation efforts following its participation in the 32nd Basic Training Course Graduation Ceremony held in Omaruru, where 399 recruits successfully completed a rigorous nine-month training programme.
Among the graduates were three HMCS officers, Sergeant Bongumenzi Langa, Buhle Jele and Sicelo Metiso who underwent training at the Lucius Sumbwanyambe Mahoto Correctional Service Training College. The programme covered 18 modules aimed at equipping recruits with essential skills and competencies required in correctional services.
HMCS participation shows the strong and longstanding partnership between His Majesty’s Correctional Services and the Namibian Correctional Service. The collaboration continues to play an important role in promoting knowledge exchange, strengthening institutional capacity, and advancing the harmonisation of correctional standards within the region.
Through joint training initiatives and shared expertise, both institutions are enhancing their ability to effectively manage correctional facilities while contributing to regional objectives of safety, security and offender rehabilitation.
The HMCS delegation was led by Deputy Commissioner General Vusi Kunene, representing Commissioner General LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini. He was accompanied by Lubombo Regional Commissioner Assistant Commissioner Sabelo Dlamini, Senior Superintendent Nothando Nhlengethwa, along with other senior officers.
Speaking during the ceremony, Raphael Tuhafeni Hamunyela asked graduates to maintain discipline and professionalism as they assume their duties.
Held under the theme “Phoenix Rising from the Ashes,” the pass-out parade symbolised resilience, renewal and transformation, qualities essential for correctional officers tasked with maintaining order and promoting rehabilitation.
HMCS also commended all graduates and reaffirmed its commitment to excellence, integrity and service delivery. Notably, Sergeant Bongumenzi Langa received special recognition from Namibian authorities, including keynote speaker Lucia Iipumbu, for his contribution to training recruits, particularly in drill instruction.
