According to information from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the engagement brought together key members of the Association, including Chairperson Musa Nhleko, Assistant Secretary Refiloe Gama and Treasurer Crystal Hillary.
Constructive dialogue on policy development
During the meeting, the Association presented its views on the proposed legislation, outlining areas where further clarity and refinement may be required.
The discussions formed part of government’s broader efforts to ensure that the Real Estate Bill reflects the needs and realities of stakeholders within the property sector, while promoting transparency, professionalism and growth.
Minister Maphalala welcomed the input, describing the engagement as constructive and essential in shaping effective and inclusive policy.
Government reinforces open-door approach
The minister commended the Association for its organised structure and proactive approach in engaging with government, noting that such collaboration is key to building a strong and responsive regulatory framework.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to maintaining an open-door policy that encourages consultation with industry players and other stakeholders.
“This kind of engagement is important in ensuring that legislation is well-informed and beneficial to all parties involved,” he indicated.
Advancing opportunities through Sectional Titles Act
Maphalala also highlighted progress in the property sector, noting that the Sectional Titles Act is now fully operational.
He encouraged property owners, developers and stakeholders to take advantage of the framework, which is designed to support property ownership, development and investment in the country.
The Act provides a structured approach to property subdivision and ownership, opening up new opportunities within the real estate market.
Strengthening the real estate sector
The engagement reflects ongoing efforts by government to strengthen the real estate sector through policy reform, stakeholder collaboration and improved regulatory systems.
By working closely with industry players, the Ministry aims to create an enabling environment that supports growth, investment and professionalism in the sector.
As discussions on the Real Estate Bill continue, such engagements are expected to play a vital role in ensuring that the final legislation is practical, inclusive and aligned with national development goals.
