- Shiselweni capital’s Council Elects Leadership in Spirit of Unity

NHLANGANO – Unity and consensus defined proceedings as the Nhlangano Town Council successfully conducted its leadership elections, with councillors casting decisive votes that reflected a collective commitment to effective governance and inclusive development.
Sicelo Smiling Msibi was elected Mayor of Nhlangano, while Thulasizwe Dlamini assumed the position of Deputy Mayor. The smooth and coordinated election process underscored a shared vision among councillors to prioritise stability, cooperation and service delivery for the benefit of residents.
Finance Committee established to strengthen oversight
As part of strengthening governance structures, the council also constituted its Finance Committee, a critical body responsible for financial planning, accountability and ensuring responsible use of public resources.
Mnqobi Mkhonta was elected Chairperson, with Sifiso Matsebula serving as Vice Chairperson, and Ndumiso Khumalo appointed as a committee member.
The establishment of the committee signals the council’s commitment to transparency and sound financial management, which are key pillars in driving sustainable urban development.
Leadership calls for unity and collaboration
In his acceptance remarks, Mayor Msibi emphasised the importance of unity, mutual respect and teamwork among councillors, stakeholders and the broader community.
He called for a collective approach in addressing the town’s development needs, noting that meaningful progress can only be achieved through collaboration.

The newly elected leadership is expected to guide Nhlangano through a period focused on economic growth, improved service delivery and community development.
