KALULU SHARES HIS SPIRITUAL AFRO HOUSE JOURNEY AND UPCOMING COLLABORATIONS

BHUNYA– From unexpected studio debut to soulful sounds, Kalulu opens up about his path.

Kalulu, real name Vezithemba Ndlangamandla, a vocalist who specializes in Afro House, mostly the spiritual kind of vibes. He hails from Bhunya, and he got a deep love for music that speaks to the soul.

Kalulu’s journey into music began in 2021, thanks to an unplanned opportunity with producer and friend Le Kronik. “It was meant to be a once-off thing,” he recalls. “He wanted a few chants on his song and asked for my help. Ever since then, I’ve been making music non-stop.”

His artist name, “Kalulu,” carries personal meaning. “It comes from the story of Ndugu M’hali. I felt inspired by it. Apart from being a unique name, it represents resilience,” he explains.

Kalulu describes his sound as spiritual Afro House, a style he feels deeply connected to. “It’s more of an everyday feeling. As humans we go through a lot on a daily basis, so me focusing on the spiritual and emotional part of music is my way of helping people get through the day.”

When it comes to how he wants people to feel listening to his music, Kalulu values personal interpretation. “I think it should come from within. People react differently to music, some may feel the need to dance, relax, or even get all emotional and cry. I would love for them to feel better and heal through the music.”

This July, he’s releasing two new tracks. “‘Kapoyina Remix’ has a more aggressive approach since the initial version was a chilled one,” he says. “‘Inkhani’ is a happy song with chilled vibes, featuring a pianist and saxophonist.”

Collaboration is a key part of his creative process. “Most definitely, it’s a collaborative musical project. Everyone had roles to play. There’s Mazozo, Le Kronik, Heal .N Keys, and Zwile.”

Looking ahead, Kalulu is clear about his mission. “It’s to inspire and pave a path for the next generation of house music creatives.”

For those following his journey or hearing him for the first time, he has one request: “Stay tuned! I’ve got an EP that I’m currently working on. I’ve also been featured on a lot of musical projects, and when the time is right, they’ll get to access that music.”
