PIGG’S PEAK — With the football league currently on a break, a tournament held on Saturday provided players with an opportunity to remain active, sharpen their skills and spend their free time participating in a positive sporting environment.
The tournament brought players together on Saturday, giving them a chance to keep their bodies active and maintain their competitive spirit while waiting for league action to resume.
Nkhaba Member of Parliament Hope Shiba highlighted the importance of such sporting activities, particularly during periods when players have more free time because of the league break.
Shiba said tournaments such as this one give players something constructive to focus on while also helping to keep them physically fit.
“The players are on a break at the league, so it is giving them the opportunity to exercise and deprive them of time to do bad things,” said Shiba.
The MP’s remarks underline the broader role that sport can play beyond competition. Regular sporting activities can provide young people and football players with a structured way to use their time, while encouraging discipline, teamwork and healthy lifestyles.
For the players, Saturday’s tournament was therefore more than an opportunity to compete. It also offered them a chance to stay connected to the sport, maintain their fitness and interact with fellow players during the league recess.
The tournament comes at a time when football remains an important platform for keeping young people engaged in constructive activities. By creating opportunities for players to remain active even when official league fixtures are suspended, community tournaments can help ensure that the break does not become a period of inactivity.
As league football prepares to return, tournaments such as Saturday’s competition demonstrate how sport can continue to provide players with purpose, physical activity and a positive environment during the off period.
