PIGG’S PEAK — Sports activities at Killarney Sports Ground have been temporarily suspended throughout August 2026 as the Pigg’s Peak Town Council undertakes essential maintenance work aimed at improving the quality and longevity of the facility.
According to a public notice issued by the Pigg’s Peak Town Council, the closure affects residents, sports clubs, schools, organisations and members of the general public who regularly use the facility.
The council said the temporary closure is necessary to facilitate maintenance work designed to improve the condition of the sports ground and ensure that it remains a suitable community sporting facility.
The ground is scheduled to reopen on 1 September 2026, giving sports clubs and other users an opportunity to resume activities once the maintenance period has been completed.
The council has appealed to the public to refrain from accessing or using Killarney Sports Ground during the closure period. It also apologised for any inconvenience caused, while thanking residents and sporting stakeholders for their patience and cooperation.
The temporary closure comes after a busy period for the venue, which has hosted several community and sporting activities in recent weeks. Killarney Sports Ground was used for the Eswatini Career Expo in early August, while it also served as a venue for football-related activities and community events.
The facility has also featured prominently in Pigg’s Peak’s community sporting calendar, including a FIFA World Cup Final viewing event in July.
The maintenance period is therefore expected to give the council an opportunity to address the condition of the ground before regular sporting activities resume in September.
For now, residents, schools, clubs and other users are encouraged to respect the closure and wait for the official reopening of the facility.
The council said the cooperation of the community will help ensure that the maintenance work is carried out effectively and that Killarney Sports Ground continues to serve as an important sporting and recreational asset for Pigg’s Peak.
