EZULWINI– Women’s mental health will take centre stage on August 8, 2026, when Gogo and Slwane Care Foundation hosts the Kusegumeni Mental Health Summit for women under the theme, “Surviving Grief, Trauma and Everything in Between.”

The summit is aimed at creating a platform where women can openly discuss mental health challenges and find practical ways of dealing with emotional and psychological struggles affecting their lives. The initiative comes amid concerns over gender-based violence, suicide, trauma and other social challenges facing women in society. Speaking during an interview on the Kusile Breakfast Show, hosted by Magagula Lungelele, Gogo Eswatini said the organisation saw a need to bring women into the mental health conversation after previously focusing on men. “We saw the need to discuss the problems women face due to the high rate of gender based violence and successful suicides,” said Gogo Eswatini in an interview at Kusile Breakfast Show.

The upcoming summit follows the organisation’s Mfowethu U Grend Na? Programme, which focused on men’s mental health and attracted approximately 580 men. Gogo Eswatini said the response to the men’s initiative showed that there was a need for continued conversations around mental health, prompting the organisation to also create a platform specifically for women. The summit will seek to address the different pressures women experience in their personal, family and professional lives.

Among the issues expected to be discussed are depression and survival, career architecture, mental health in the workplace, addiction, parenting and family dynamics, as well as sexual health. They believe addressing these issues is important because women often carry multiple responsibilities while dealing with personal, family and societal pressures. The discussions are expected to encourage women to speak openly about grief, trauma and emotional struggles while learning about available support and healthier ways of coping.

Mental health is an important part of women’s overall wellbeing, and the organisers hope the summit will help break the silence surrounding psychological struggles. The event will also provide an opportunity for women to connect with others who may have experienced similar challenges, while encouraging conversations that can contribute to healing and resilience. The foundation hopes that bringing women together will help identify practical solutions to some of the challenges affecting their mental wellbeing.

The Kusegumeni Mental Health Summit is therefore expected to go beyond awareness by encouraging women to prioritise their mental health, seek help when necessary and support one another through difficult experiences. Through the summit, the organisers hope to strengthen the conversation around women’s mental health and create a community where women can speak, heal and find ways of surviving grief, trauma and everything in between.
