MBABANE– Molly’s House of Grills transformed into a theatre of joy this past Friday, 27 February, as the “Valentine’s Aftermath” edition of Last Friday Gags with Cedric & Friends drew a packed house of comedy lovers.
What began as a modest endeavour to revive Eswatini’s comedy culture has quickly morphed into a vital cultural anchor, one laugh at a time.
The event, which commenced at 19:00, lived up to its billing as a night of “laughter served hot.” It drew a capacity crowd that came not only for the venue’s famed ribs and wings but also for the sharp wit that only seasoned comedians can plate up. The atmosphere was charged, the mood festive, and the aroma of grilled delicacies blended seamlessly with the anticipation of punchlines waiting to land.
From the moment the first comic stepped onto the stage, it was evident that the audience was in for a memorable experience. Headlining the show was the ever-charismatic Cedric, whose name has become synonymous with sharp humour and an infectious stage presence. He was joined by a dynamic lineup of local talent, including Mdura, Festival B, Ntsetselelo, Mcola, and musician Andrew Waters, each contributing a distinctive flavour to the evening’s entertainment.
The diversity of styles proved to be the night’s greatest strength. Mdura eased into observational humour, dissecting everyday life in Eswatini with an effortless charm that had patrons laughing at the familiar rhythms of their own experiences. Mcola followed with a blend of storytelling and playful sarcasm, taking the audience on humorous journeys that balanced wit with relatability. Ntsetselelo, in contrast, brought an energetic and unpredictable punch to the stage, ensuring the laughter never dipped.
Adding a musical twist, Andrew Waters offered light-hearted interludes that complemented the comedic acts, further enriching the atmosphere. By the time Cedric returned to close the show, the energy in the room had reached its peak, with laughter flowing as freely as a Friday night drink special.
Cedric explained that the project is driven by a mission far greater than simply filling seats. “We want to bring back the magic of stand-up comedy—a space that has always been a home for laughter,” he stated. “Our goal is to create a consistent platform for local comedians to showcase their best material and grow. It is about rebuilding a comedy scene that brings people together every month.”
Cedric emphasised that consistency is at the heart of the concept, noting that each edition is carefully curated to ensure freshness and quality. “We are committed to providing a fresh and clean lineup every month. No two shows will ever be the same; every comedian brings their A-game, so you can expect new faces, new jokes, and top-tier performances.”
The partnership with Molly’s House of Grills is, according to Cedric, a strategic one. The restaurant has built a loyal following for its flame-grilled offerings, making it an ideal setting for a recurring social event that blends food and entertainment.
