MTFONGWANENI – A learner from Manzini Central High School might jump straight into becoming a soldier immediately after she finishes school.
Zodwa Mkhatshwa (19) might not have to experience what other school leavers experience – the pain of having to stay at home for years after finishing school because of unemployment. She is doing Form Five.
Mkhatshwa became a winner in the race for the army (UEDF) recruitment exercise in Mtfongwaneni Inkhundla. Mkhatshwa said she was happy to become a winner in the race , even though she was still school-going.
She said she would continue with her studies until she sits for her final examinations. She still values school and she believes that education is the key to success, hence she will not stop schooling, especially now that she is about to finish.
Mtfongwaneni residents, who had come to witness the exercise, advised Mkhatshwa to now focus on her school work. They saw her as someone who had used her brains by participating in the race while she was still a learner. They said she was going to be able to be employed during the early stages of her adult life.
This incident, according to the residents, will enable her to improve herself early in her life. They also advised her to take care of herself until she enrolled for military training at Mbuluzi Army Barracks.
