MANZINI– The NACA Awards regional circuit reaches its final stop in Manzini this Friday, with local creatives set to compete for recognition before the awards move into the national phase.
The Manzini Regional Festival, scheduled for Millennium Park, follows regional festivals held in Lubombo, Shiselweni and Hhohho. The festival will bring together creatives from different disciplines, with performances from nominees alongside exhibitions featuring artists and designers.
For Thamsanqa “KrTC” Sibandze, Chairman of the Awards, the Manzini leg is an opportunity to acknowledge creatives who took the step of putting their work forward. “We are excited to bring this significant event to Manzini this weekend after completing successful festivals in three regions.” He said.
Sibandze also acknowledged the creatives who submitted nominations, describing the process as one requiring commitment and courage. “We also want to congratulate all the creatives who submitted their nominations under Manzini; it takes bravery and dedication to do so, and we sincerely appreciate your efforts.”
The stakes will increase after the regional festival, as successful nominees progress to the national stage where they will compete for national titles. Beyond the competition, the awards are also placing emphasis on equipping creatives with practical industry skills.
ENCAC CEO Stanley Dlamini said the organisation is using the National Music Development Programme (NMDP) to strengthen the professional side of the creative sector. “Through the National Music Development Programme (NMDP), we aim to develop industry professionals.” Said Dlamini.
According to Dlamini, this year’s programme will go beyond certificates and awards, with creatives receiving training in areas such as sound engineering and music business. “Creatives will not only receive awards or certificates of appreciation but will also gain skills in areas such as sound engineering and music business through the programme.”
South African music industry expert Vusi Leeuw will oversee the initiative after the national awards, with intensive workshops planned to provide creatives with practical industry knowledge. Following the Manzini festival, the national nominees will be announced before voting begins. Entry to Millennium Park is free.
With the regional rounds now reaching their final chapter, Manzini creatives have one more opportunity to make their mark before the NACA Awards shift the spotlight to the national stage.
