MANZINI– The stage is set for a showcase of movement, creativity and competitive energy as dancers from across the Manzini region prepare to battle for a place in the next stage of the Wafa Wafa EITF National Dance Competition.
The regional eliminations, organised by the Eswatini National Dance Association are expected to bring together dance crews looking to turn their choreography and performance skills into a national breakthrough.
The competition forms part of efforts to create more platforms for dancers to develop their craft and gain exposure within Eswatini’s entertainment industry. With dance continuing to attract young creatives across different styles, competitions such as Wafa Wafa provide an opportunity for performers to test themselves against other emerging talent.
The Manzini eliminations will take place at the Manzini Art Centre on 22 August, where participating crews will use the stage to showcase their technical ability, coordination, originality and stage presence.
Beyond the competition itself, the event highlights the growing role of dance as part of Eswatini’s creative economy. For many young performers, such platforms can provide valuable experience in performing before an audience, working as a team and developing the discipline required for a career in the arts.
The Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) has expressed support for the competition as part of its broader mandate to nurture and develop the arts sector. The regional eliminations also require participants to subscribe to the association at an annual fee of E50, according to the organisers.
As dancers prepare to step onto the Manzini Art Centre stage, attention will be on the crews capable of combining sharp choreography with originality and the ability to command an audience.
For the performers, the competition represents more than a chance to win. It is another opportunity to demonstrate that dance can provide a meaningful avenue for young Emaswati to express themselves, build careers and contribute to the country’s growing entertainment landscape.
