LUDZIDZINI– The Minister of Home Affairs, Princess Lindiwe, has confirmed that Monday, March 16, 2026, will be observed as a Lutsango public holiday.
The Minister made the confirmation during the announcement of the second leg of the Buganu Ceremony on March 4, 2026, at Ludzidzini, which is set to be held on March 13, 2026 at Hlane Royal Residence.
The holiday was officially proclaimed by His Majesty King Mswati III during the Buganu Ceremony at Buhleni Royal Residence in February 2025. It falls on the Monday following the second leg of the Buganu (Marula) Ceremony and honours the Lutsango regiment.
Lutsango Day celebrates the national women’s group for their vital role in preserving Eswatini’s cultural heritage. The holiday replaces the former Sobhuza II Day, previously observed on July 22.
The Lutsango regiment is recognised for presenting the first marula brew (Buganu) to the Queen Mother and the King, a tradition symbolising national unity, cultural identity, and respect for Eswatini’s customs.
The holiday also highlights the role of women in strengthening the nation’s cultural fabric, fostering unity from the family to the national level, and supporting community development.
Lutsango celebrations coincide with the annual Marula Festival, which promotes food security, local participation, and economic empowerment.
Minister Princess Lindiwe encouraged all citizens to join in honouring the dedication of women who uphold tradition through the Buganu celebrations, underscoring the continued importance of cultural preservation for the nation.
