MBABANE – What started as a performance opportunity has blossomed into a heartfelt gesture of gratitude, with MoMo Xperience Festival Director Culolam Mbekezeli Dlamini receiving an unexpected goat from rising Swati musician Sancheziey in appreciation of the role he played in opening doors for his music career.
The emotional gesture happened yesterday when Sancheziey, whose real name is Mkhuleko Mangwe, called Mbekezile and told him he had “another gift” for him, asking him to take his bakkie and go with him.
The surprise unfolded in front of Sancheziey’s parents, where Mbekezile was presented with a beautiful goat, later named Salukazana by the musician.
For Mbekezile, the gift is more than livestock; it is a symbol of the impact he has had on an emerging artist whose career has grown rapidly since performing at MoMo Xperience.
Mbekezile gave Sancheziey a slot at MoMo Xperience, placing him between The Soil and Lloyiso, while also helping secure opportunities at other major shows, including performances outside Eswatini.
According to Sancheziey, those opportunities changed the pace of his career, with his phone reportedly becoming a constant source of calls for bookings across the SADC region.
“Ever since MoMo Xperience, I’ve never had a weekend at home. The impact is massive, the brand has grown in a way that is so humbling for me,” said Sancheziey.
He added that being given a peak-hour slot despite having limited big-stage experience gave him the platform to make a strong statement in the music scene.
Sancheziey said the decision to give Mbekezile a goat was rooted in values instilled in him by his mother, church and community.
“Before being Sancheziey, I am Mkhuleko Mangwe, a young Swati man well raised by a single parent; a mother who planted every seed in me that makes up a good son,” he said.
He explained that the goat would serve as a lasting reminder of Mbekezile’s role in his journey.
“I want him when he sees it having babies or running around, to remember what role he played in a young Swati man whose life and his family life depended on music,” said Sancheziey.
For Mbekezile, the gesture is a powerful reminder that investing in young talent can produce ripple effects far beyond a single stage.
Sancheziey believes gratitude should not only be spoken but demonstrated, saying his mother taught him that the words “thank you” become louder when they are materialised.
The musician also credited Mbekezile for advising him to release an album even before MoMo Xperience, describing his guidance as part of the foundation behind his growth.
“This is not only about big stages, it’s about being fathered or big-brothered in this stage of life,” Sancheziey said.
As Sancheziey continues to build his cultural brand and pursue opportunities beyond Eswatini, the goat stands as an unusual but meaningful trophy of mentorship — proof that sometimes, the biggest thank-you does not come in the form of an award, but arrives on four legs.
